Agreed a Repayment Plan, Paid Nothing

Background

Since 2018, a Chinese transportation company had engaged a UK company to handle freight services across Europe and within the UK. All coordination and settlement were conducted via email. Cooperation proceeded smoothly at first, with the Chinese company paying freight regularly.

Dispute

In April 2023, the Chinese company abruptly refused to pay due freight, citing operational difficulties. After multiple rounds of negotiation, both parties agreed to an installment plan: starting in May, 20% of the outstanding freight — €20,000 per month — would be paid over six months. The Chinese company subsequently failed to honor any of the scheduled payments.

Outcome

The UK company engaged SuitWin Recovery. Following adjudication by the Beijing No. 4 Intermediate People’s Court, the Chinese transportation company was ordered to pay the UK company €120,000 in freight charges plus corresponding interest.
